Volatile Fatty Acids: In the rumen, the carbohydrate components of the diet like cellulose, hemicellulose, starches, sugars are converted to volatile fatty acids i.e. Acetic acid, Propionic acid and Butyric acid along with the production of gases like Methane & Carbon dioxide. These volatile fatty acids are absorbed through ruminal wall and the gases are eructed through the mouth during rumination.
